Pilot's ECO USBCELL™ BATTERY Named as CES 2016 Best of Innovation Awards Honoree
City of Industry, CA (PRWEB) November 11, 2015 -- Pilot today announced that it has been named a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree for its ECO USBCELL™ BATTERY in the category of EcoDesign and Sustainable Technologies. The ECO USBCELL BATTERY also received the highest honor in the category winning the CES 2016 Best of Innovation Award. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 27 product categories.
The ECO USBCELL BATTERY marries existing technologies into a functional and pragmatic format. It utilizes lithium polymer technology and encases it in the footprint of the standard AA or AAA battery size. It is the first such battery on the market.
The patented USB-charging function is also a first. It can be charged conveniently and quickly in most USB ports and features LED charging indicators which inform the user when the battery is charging and when the charge is complete.
It is UL-/CE-certified and FCC-/ROHS-compliant to ensure safety for everyday use and transportation.
Traditional NiMH rechargeable batteries utilize antiquated technologies which deliver 1.2 volts of output (versus a constant 1.5 volts). Charge capacity retention and performance degrade quickly compared to lithium polymer technology. An additional advantage of lithium polymer technology is that there is no dangerous acid leakage or corrosion.
The ECO USBCELL BATTERY is manufactured by world-renowned Foxconn.
It is estimated that the United States discards more than 3 billion batteries per year. Of these, nearly half are single-use batteries, the majority of which end up in landfills which in turn have a potentially devastating impact on our environment. Moving away from the traditional single-use consumable product model mitigates these negative environmental impacts. Being rechargeable for 500 cycles provides value to the consumer in product lifetime cost savings.
“When the ECO USBCELL BATTERY was original conceived, we expected that it could be a game-changer in the single-use disposable battery market,” said Calvin Wang, President and CEO of Pilot, “so to receive such highly coveted recognition by such a prestigious organization is not only a tremendous honor but very encouraging.”
Wang added, “Billions of single-use batteries are discarded each year. Every ECO USBCELL BATTERY can displace 500 regular batteries. This product can make a difference in our future and for that of our children – and that is important.”
The prestigious CES Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM, the producer of CES 2016, the global gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976.
Pilot’s ECO USBCELL BATTERY will be displayed at CES 2016, which runs January 6-9, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Best of Innovation Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled New York, which features dozens of exhibitors and networking opportunities and runs 4:30-7:30 PM November 10 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York.
Entries are evaluated on their engineering, aesthetic and design qualities, intended use/function and user value, how the design and innovation of the product directly compares to other products in the marketplace and unique/novel features present.
Products chosen as CES Best of Innovation Honorees reflect innovative design and engineering in some of the most cutting edge tech products and services coming to market.
CES 2016 Innovation Honoree products are featured on CESweb.org/Innovation, which lists product categories, as well as each product name, manufacturer information, description, photo and URL.
