Pioneer Millworks Receives Forest Stewardship Council® Leadership Award
Farmington, NY (PRWEB) November 19, 2015 -- On November 18, 2015 Pioneer Millworks was awarded an FSC® Leadership Award for communicating the benefits of FSC to consumers and supplying a wide array of reclaimed FSC-certified products. The FSC Leadership Awards recognize excellence in the use of FSC certified products and commitment to responsible forest management.
“While the honor reflects our commitment to responsible forest management, we believe we wouldn’t be as successful without the most enthusiastic, talented, smart, eco-driven people that work with us. Our people are the reason we are winning this award,” comments Jennifer Young, General Manager of Pioneer Millworks. “Together we make products that matter, in as environmentally and socially responsible ways as possible.”
Pioneer Millworks is FSC Chain of Custody Certified in three categories for their wood products: Recycled, Mixed, and Pure. To date they’ve rescued nearly 25 million board feet of old wood from rot and landfills, giving it new life. The second annual FSC Leadership Awards celebrated organizations and people who have long used markets to protect forests.
“The award winners demonstrate that the private sector has a great opportunity – and responsibility – to help protect forests,” said Corey Brinkema, president of the Forest Stewardship Council US. “By building the market for FSC products, the award winners show we can conserve forests, even as we use forest products in our daily lives,” he added.
Pioneer Millworks was one of the first companies to become FSC certified in recycled wood over eight years ago. “Our FSC auditor at the time said he’d never had a company with everything required already in place,” recalls Michele Caryl, Acquisitions Manager and FSC guru at Pioneer Millworks. “FSC was a great way to give merit to how Pioneer Millworks has always functioned.”
FSC certified products offer ecologically conscious homeowners, designers, and builders an alternative to non-sustainable flooring, paneling, and millwork without compromising quality, character, or selection. Pioneer Millworks customer, Jennifer Gilbert, says, "I went to Pioneer because I like the way their floors look. In the end, I also chose them for their commitment to sustainable practices. When I walk on my floors, I feel good that I chose responsibly. I know no new trees were cut, no chemicals were added to the air, and my dollars stayed in the US."
“While our reclaimed wood is prized for its history, character, tight grain patterns, and deep patina, our customers – designers, architects, and homeowners – join us in protecting the environment by choosing companies like ours that embrace third party certification, high environmental standards, and responsible business practices,” continued Young.
The FSC Leadership Awards recognize excellence in the use of FSC certified products and commitment to responsible forest management. “The FSC Awards recognize individuals and organizations that dedicate their time and efforts to protecting forests through FSC certification,” reports the Forest Stewardship Council. “Formerly known as the “Design & Build with FSC Awards, the FSC Leadership Awards will continue to recognize excellence in green building, while also expanding to celebrate other products, organizations, and leaders in the FSC community.” Each awarded organization plays a critical role in the fight against climate change.
The Leadership Awards are presented annually during Greenbuild, the world’s largest green building event. This year, Greenbuild will occur at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. with the Expo running from 10am-6pm on November 18-19 and the Conference from November 18-20. Pioneer Millworks will be located at booth #1423 near the Wood Pavilion.
The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent nonprofit organization that promotes environmentally sound, socially beneficial, and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests. FSC was created in 1993 to help consumers and business identify products from well-managed forests. FSC sets standards by which forests are certified, offering credible verification to people who are buying wood and wood products. Four thousand companies and 175 million acres of forestland are certified under FSC standards in the United States and Canada.
As their name reflects, Pioneer Millworks was a pioneer in the salvaged and reclaimed antique wood industry opening their doors 25 years ago. To date, they’ve rescued nearly 25 million board feet of old wood from rot and landfills, giving it new life as flooring, timbers, millwork, cabinetry, and more. The organization fully sources and manufactures in the USA in New York and Oregon, in a way that’s healthy for you, their employees, and the environment. Pioneer Millworks is FSC certified and Green America approved. All of their products are LEED point eligible.
