Poignant Women’s Health Memoir Brings Hope
Navarre, FL (PRWEB) December 29, 2014 -- A memoir about a mother’s incredible journey into and out of postpartum psychosis has been released. The memoir represents a break-through in the field of mental health as it relates to childbirth. It is a first-person account of one woman’s experience and ultimate triumph over postpartum psychosis.
Jennifer Hentz Moyer shares her incredible journey in the book, A Mother’s Climb Out of Darkness: A Story about Overcoming Postpartum Psychosis. Often misunderstood and misdiagnosed this disease impacted not just Moyer herself, but her beloved family as well. Following the birth of her son, Moyer began a downward spiral of sleepless nights, gripping fear and irrational distrust of everyone including her husband. A call by her doctor began a medical journey which would forever change Moyer.
The book is a true life story about the symptoms, indicators, terror and overall effects of postpartum psychosis, a serious disorder that can threaten and attack any mother. The memoir reveals what can be done to help and support a mother stricken with this disorder and bring valuable insight into overcoming a battle with a mental illness related to childbearing. Through her journey, Moyer reveals the importance of receiving treatment that addresses not just the physical body but all aspects of an individual.
Moyer states, “Ultimately I triumphed and overcame postpartum psychosis. Not only did postpartum psychosis shatter my life, but it also shattered my family and destroyed my confidence as a mother. The medical and surrounding communities were ill-equipped to handle a life-threatening illness that nearly cost me my life.” Moyer explains that recovery is a process but it is a process that was prolonged because of ignorance and inadequate treatment. “I was compelled to write A Mother’s Climb Out of Darkness to help prevent women and families from suffering as my family and I did. My deepest heart-cry is to let others know: there is help, there is hope, and you are not alone.”
Moyer is a visible and vocal spokeswoman for education and outreach related to postpartum psychosis. Moyer is a prominent volunteer and advocate in the area of perinatal mental health (mental health related to childbearing) with over 18 years of experience in the area of mental health. In addition, Moyer has a professional background in the area of healthcare marketing enabling her to have additional insight in how changes and improvements can be made within the community to better address mental health.
