Presbyterian Homes Introduces Technology to Extend Residents’ Ability to Live Independently
Evanston, IL (PRWEB) September 17, 2013 -- Presbyterian Homes, a not-for-profit, faith-based owner-operator of three continuing care retirement communities on Chicago’s North Shore and in the northwest suburbs, has implemented a module of the LivHOME CareMonitor® remote care service for some of its independent living residents in a pilot program to support and extend their ability to live independently.
LivHOME CareMonitor® remote care service offers two packages that use a web-based personalized touch screen to monitor seniors’ health and well-being. Presbyterian Homes is focusing on the Quality of Life package, which includes medication schedules and reminders, a personal emergency response system, and social engagement tools such as online messaging, photo sharing, Skype online video calling, social calendars, music and games—all from a single touch screen.
“We were particularly interested in the system’s ability to provide enhanced social engagement from a single screen,” says Robert Werdan, vice president of marketing and public relations. “Our aim has always been to help residents maintain the greatest amount of independence their health will allow, and social connection is a key component of wellness. We’re also anticipating that residents will find the single point of management for health indicators and social activities a very effective organizational tool.”
Skokie, IL –based LivHOME Eldercare Consultant Claudia Cook says, “It’s ideal to be able to offer this technology in a modular format. The system has the ability to grow with the person as needs change.”
The LivHOME CareMonitor® also offers a Peace of Mind package that includes the monitoring of important metrics such as blood pressure, glucose, blood oxygen and body weight in addition to aggregating medication schedules and reminders. It also features the social contact elements of the Quality of Life Package and provides motion and temperature detectors that communicate with the system to further ensure residents’ safety. Both packages provide involvement and training from a care manager with monthly reviews, phone availability and quarterly visits.
