Prescription Motorcycle Sunglasses Padded Eye Seals Tested for Effectiveness
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- Prescription Motorcycle Sunglasses with removable padded eye seals were tested by ADS Sports Eyewear to evaluate the need for padded eye seals on longer rides. The results would be the same for non prescription motorcycle glasses, but because prescription lens wearers have a larger investment in eyewear the focus was on the Rx-able motorcycle glasses.
Motorcycle Sunglasses that utilize taller temples but have no additional padding to deflect wind were evaluated first on an ADS Sports Eyewear ride from Dallas to Sturgis. About half of the riders reported some eye fatigue within the first couple hours. The consensus of the first round of testing revealed that most riders start experiencing ocular fatigue very early on when at high speeds on a motorcycle. The energy required to moisturize eyes in constant swirling wind took its toll on the testers relatively quickly. Dry eyes can lead to fatigue decreased awareness. The glasses tested with taller temples and no padding worked well at slower speeds or between stoplights, but not as well at highway speeds. After the first round of testing, most riders were looking forward to testing glasses that have an eye seal.
Testing these motorcycle glasses with an eye seal just confirmed what the team from ADS Sports Eyewear already considered to be a given. During this phase riders did not report any dryness or overall eye fatigue. This added comfort made it much easier to stay in the saddle for hours at a time. Breaks became a function of bladder capacity rather than a stiff neck or back. Riders reported a noticeable increase in energy and awareness when they did not have to deal with the dry-eye issues. Glasses with padded eye seals were not as comfortable on hot days stuck at a stop light, but sliding the glasses slightly off the face or removing the eye seal was an easy fix for this. These eye seals were a lifesaver when riders were stuck out in the rain.
