Public Invited to Tour Clickstop’s Manufacturing Operations
URBANA, IA (PRWEB) October 14, 2016 -- Public tours of the Clickstop headquarters are planned next week as part of Advancing the Future – A Tour of Corridor Manufacturers, which aims to bring awareness to growing employment opportunities in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City area.
Clickstop will join 14 other local manufacturing facilities Oct. 17-21 for the fourth-annual event coordinated through the Advanced Manufacturing Sector Board.
“We’re excited to host public tours alongside local manufacturers in the Corridor to inspire the next generation of talent,” said Sarah Watson, Talent Experience Architect at Clickstop.
Advancing the Future particularly targets students, parents, educators, media, customers, and suppliers, offering a firsthand look at today’s need for highly-skilled positions and earning potential. Attendees will also learn about educational training and resources, as well as gain a better understanding of products created in Eastern Iowa.
Clickstop owns and operates a suite of brands based in Urbana, Iowa. US Cargo Control, its largest division, specializes in sewing ratchet straps, cargo nets and other load securement tools, and has plans to introduce tarps to its manufacturing capabilities by the end of the year.
Visitors will get a peek inside a more than 53,000-square-foot building expansion that will add 20,000 square feet to the manufacturing floor.
“The Advancing the Future tour is a unique opportunity for us to connect with community members and share the accomplishments of our manufacturing team, the innovative pieces of our company culture and the variety of careers we have available,” Watson said.
Manufacturing remains one of Iowa’s largest industries, representing about 13.4 percent of Iowa’s total jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The seven-county region that includes Cedar Rapids and Iowa City offers more than 35,400 manufacturing positions alone.
Nationally, a 2015 report from The Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte found that 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will have to be filled over the next decade, primarily due to baby boomer retirements and economic expansion. The study notes that a skills gap is expected to result in 2 million of those going unfilled.
Advancing the Future is free and open to anyone. Guided tours at Clickstop, 202 Blue Creek Drive in Urbana, will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning on October 17. Safety glasses will be provided; long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. No advance reservation is necessary.
