Recovery Unplugged® Drug Treatment Center Marks Second Anniversary And Announces Dramatic Results
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) December 08, 2015 -- Recovery Unplugged® Treatment Center, the Fort Lauderdale, Florida drug rehab facility that uses a unique, individualized, music-based rehabilitation approach, has marked its second anniversary by announcing that over the past two years, 406 addicted people have completed Recovery Unplugged’s rehab program. Of those, 240, or 59.1%, are now not using drugs. Of those who did relapse after completing the Recovery Unplugged program, 90% returned to Recovery Unplugged, despite the many other options available.
According to Dr. Christian Delucia, a researcher at Nova Southeastern University (FL) now studying the Recovery Unplugged program, “state of the art” rehab facilities have a 60% relapse rate. Those relapse rates are even higher depending on drugs of choice, age and other clinical issues. However, he says, of the thousands of rehabilitation centers judged, only 10% are “state of the art,” and those that are not state of the art have extremely high relapse rates.
Many people working in addiction rehabilitation report that recovering from drug addiction often involves at least one relapse, and that many users will relapse multiple times. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), the relapse rate after inpatient treatment is about 91%. However, there is no precise statistic that calculates an average relapse rate after addiction rehab program completion. Professionals do agree that most addicts will enter addiction treatment programs that use some form a “12 Step” program again and again without achieving long-term sobriety.
In 2012, a study released by the Partnership at Drugfree.org and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) indicated that only 10% of adults who answered their survey consider themselves to be in recovery from drug addiction.
Drug addiction treatment facilities are often assessed qualitatively using AMA (leaving treatment before program completion “Against Medical Advice” or ASA (Against Staff Advice) rates. Recovery Unplugged has an extremely low AMA rate of less than 7%. This compares to a typical rate of 30% (and often higher) when age, drug of choice and other clinical issues are indicated.
Offering an explanation as to why the Recovery Unplugged program is having such success, the center’s Director of Creative Recovery and famed singer/songwriter Richie Supa said, “The innovation is the combining of music therapies with traditional and cognitive behavioral rehabilitation approaches – whether a client is a musician or not, and we’ve found that music makes the difference. Personal involvement with music becomes a catalyst for making the changes necessary for long-term recovery and sobriety.”
When patients leave Recovery Unplugged, they leave with the musical “recovery triggers” they themselves have created. The music helps them learn to communicate emotionally. “Music provides an emotional connection to the soul. When we work with addicts using music, it breaks down defenses and facilitates, motivates and inspires a life change.”
The Recovery Unplugged program is designed to adapt to individual needs. Although addicts tend to have much in common, people’s fundamental differences can be overlooked in some treatment environments. Recovery Unplugged works to establish a better understanding of the individual and his or her needs for a full recovery. Clients engage in various levels of care from extended care residential to outpatient treatment. Transitional living is also offered along with complete case management services.
