Retail Management Solutions Provides Customers With P2PE Solutions For Recent EMV Liability Shift
Lacey, WA (PRWEB) November 24, 2015 -- In preparation of a liability shift due to EMV, Retail Management Solutions has provided and will continue to provide solutions and insight for customers throughout Fall of 2015.
Retail Management Solutions is doing so in order to help their customers navigate these new changes and to understand what it might mean for their pharmacy.
Since EMV doesn't technically reduce the risk of an actual credit card data breach, Retail Management Systems has recommended that their customers consider Point to Point Encryption (P2PE), as they deem it one of the most secure options for processing credit cards in pharmacies.
As no actual credit card information is stored in the POS system itself, the risk of such a breach of information is eliminated when P2PE is implemented as a solution.
Unfortunately, the security of credit card data is compromised on almost a daily basis. Retail Management Solutions provides the following insight to customers:
80% of all credit card breaches happen to smaller merchants that process less than one million transactions per year
If a data breach occurs, it can cost a small businesses over $100,000 in fees and penalties
In addition to monetary loss, businesses that experience data breaches can experience damage to its reputation, resulting in a loss of customers and business
Officially, the liability shift date transpired on October 1, but Retail Management Solutions has been diligent in providing their customers with insight even before the shift occurred.
Since there's a great deal of misinformation circulating regarding the EMV liability shift, Retail Management Solutions sought to clarify the following information for their customers:
Merchants aren't required to adopt the newly introduced EMV shift. As of now, there is no date set in place where businesses will be required to adopt it
When a merchant is EMV enabled and someone runs a chip card as an EMV transaction and it's fraudulent, the merchant is not liable. Rather, the card company will assume liability for the fraudulent chargeback
This shift in liability only applies to card transactions that are EMV enabled and EMV processed. Those who are not yet EMV enabled will be responsible for fraudulent transactions that transpire under the same liability the merchant had previously adopted
Retail Management Solutions implemented P2PE for their customers as a solution due to its security capabilities. When an credit card is swiped, it is encrypted and sent directly for approval while never entering any data into the pharmacy's systems. In return, the pharmacy only receives an approval or decline to the POS system, so no information is capable of being compromised.
RMS is working diligently with many credit card processors to offer EMV and P2PE solutions. Contact them for the latest updates on what processors can offer these credit card security solutions.
Mike Gross, VP Sales and Marketing with RMS, said "There is so much misinformation out there, and being a leader in the point-of-sale space for pharmacies, we felt it was our responsibility to inform our customers how to best navigate through this liability shift. Giving them the correct information allows them to decide what security methods are best for their business."
