SABRE’s Top 5 Tips from National Safety Month (June)
(PRWEB) July 01, 2015 -- Last month was National Safety Month, and the global leader in personal safety shared insights on how to reduce your risk of burglary, attack, car accidents and more. Learn from these five quick tips and share them with others to stay safe every month out of the year:
1. Wasp spray is not a suitable alternative to pepper spray
SABRE’s latest video tests both pepper spray and wasp spray on a volunteer, proving that wasp spray is not strong enough to stop a goal-oriented attacker. When the target gets sprayed with pepper spray, he’s unable to complete a set of assigned tasks (such as finding a $100 bill), but when the target gets sprayed with wasp spray, he has no problem completing the same tasks.
SABRE also asked the eight biggest wasp spray manufacturers whether or not they recommended consumers use wasp spray for defense against a human attacker. The results were conclusive: All eight manufacturers indicated that they would not recommend using wasp spray for self-defense.
2. Most break-ins occur between 6 AM and 6 PM, and burglars avoid homes with security systems
If your home is protected by a security system, make sure signs are visible from your yard or the street. This will tell burglars that your home is protected, even when you’re not around. If you don’t own a security system, shop SABRE’s user-friendly models that install in seconds - they’re effective alarms without installation and monitoring fees.
3. Talk to your child about internet safety and monitor browser history
Let your little one know that nobody online should ask them about personal information or use language referencing intimacy. Set ground rules on who, if anyone, your child is allowed to talk to on the internet. It’s also a good idea to review your computer’s browser history to make sure your child isn’t being subjected to adult content.
4. Drink at least half of your body weight in water in ounces on a daily basis
Using this rule of thumb will help you avoid dehydration and keep your body safe - this is especially important in the summer! Find out more ways to stay hydrated from our partner and nutritionist Jennifer Cassetta.
5. Print off a home security checklist - hang it up in a cupboard to keep safety top of mind
SABRE created a printable PDF reminding you about home security basics. The informational sheet reminds you what to do while out of town, planning yardwork, or thinking about leaving an extra key under the mat.
