Samuel J. Wahl, MD Appointed Chair of Pathology at Lenox Hill Hospital
NY, NY (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- Lenox Hill Hospital today announced the appointment of Samuel J. Wahl, MD, as chair of pathology. Dr. Wahl has been a staff member at Lenox Hill Hospital since 1994, and had served as interim chair and program director of the hospital’s Department of Pathology since January 2013. He was director of the hospital’s Pathology Residency Training Program from 2006 to 2008, and assumed responsibilities as director of anatomic pathology in 2008.
Dr. Wahl holds a range of academic appointments and clinical committee memberships. He is a clinical assistant professor of pathology at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, chair of the Lenox Hill Hospital Tissue Committee and Credentials Committee, as well as a member of Graduate Medical Education Committee, Infection Control Committee, Operating Room Committee and the Medical Board. In addition, Dr. Wahl is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the New York Pathological Society. He is also a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. He has served as secretary-treasurer, vice president and president of the Pathologists' Club of New York, and has authored peer reviewed articles on pathology of cancer of the breast, lung, alimentary tract, urogenital tract and hematopoietic system.
Dr. Wahl, a California native, began his undergraduate education in fine arts at the University of California at Berkeley, followed by German and music studies at California State University Northridge, the Universität Heidelberg and the Universität der Künste Berlin, prior to obtaining his medical degree in 1986 from the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. He did his residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Lenox Hill Hospital from 1986 to 1990, and completed a fellowship in oncologic pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1990 to 1991. Dr. Wahl’s initial staff appointment was at the New York Hospital Queens in Flushing, NY, after which he returned to Lenox Hill Hospital as an attending pathologist and director of the autopsy service.
