Santa Barbara 100 Opens Registration at www.sb100.org
Santa Barbara, Calif. (PRWEB) May 01, 2015 -- The all-new Santa Barbara 100 (SB100) presented by Silver Air, has opened registration at http://www.sb100.org.
This year’s event takes place on October 17 and will maintain the same great Central California cycling course that thousands of riders have enjoyed over the past five years. Previously named the Santa Barbara Century, the ride takes participants through some of the most beautiful and challenging routes in the United States.
Three distinct courses are designed to suit various cycling abilities – each course offering a world class Santa Barbara cycling experience. All courses start at the Ledbetter beach park and follow the beautiful Santa Barbara beachfront before tuning inland. Cyclists experience the rolling foothills lined with citrus and avocado orchards of the front range and climb some of the most famous mountains in the country, all while experiencing one of the most beautiful views in Southern California.
Riders of the 100-mile course will be challenged by 9,000 feet of climbing including the “Gibraltar Challenge” – a 7-mile time trial up Gibraltar road – before descending back toward the ocean for a beach-front finish. The 100-kilometer course features a similar experience without the high country climbs. The 34-mile course provides novice cyclists an exciting and scenic introduction to the Santa Barbara cycling experience. Riders of the SB100 will understand why Santa Barbara serves as the winter training ground to some of the nation’s top pro cyclists.
The new Santa Barbara 100 has signed Silver Air, a private aviation management and charter company with corporate offices in Santa Barbara, as its presenting sponsor. Silver Air has committed to helping the event raise more awareness and funds for the charities it supports.
“The Santa Barbara 100 has always had one of the most scenic and challenging courses in the U.S., and with new support from Silver Air and other sponsors, we’re going to provide a world class experience for our riders,” said Jeff Ridenour, president of the SB100 board. “We have adopted a new logo, branding and website to better represent our maturing event, and we’re creating enhanced onsite experiences for riders with the SB100 expo.”
The all-new SB100 Expo will run the Friday before the ride throughout the event on Saturday and into the early evening for riders to relax, have a great meal and socialize with sponsors and other riders.
In addition to Silver Air’s support, Tricia Middleton has joined the event’s board of directors and executive committee to help steer it from a local passion project into a mature and world-renowned brand. Middleton’s background in event production includes more than a decade producing Eco-Challenge expedition-length adventure races across the country and around the world.
“The course is spectacular, the organization is stronger than ever, and I look forward to applying my own experience and expertise to help make this one of the best cycling events in the country – if not the world,” Middleton said. “This event is good for the local riding community, good for the charities that it supports, and it’s good for local businesses. In addition to supporting the Executive Committee, I’ll be helping the board look for sponsorship and support throughout the local business community.”
