Santa Fe Children's Museum Invests in Distinguished Curriculum Specialist
Santa Fe, New Mexico (PRWEB) September 29, 2014 -- The Santa Fe Children’s Museum announced today that acclaimed educator Michele Behar Reich has been appointed the Curriculum Specialist. Boasting an impressive resume with almost 30 years of experience, Reich will apply her extensive expertise in building school and community partnerships in Pre-K-16 settings to create programs and curricula that engage parents and children in early learning techniques, further enhancing the visitor experience at the Museum.
“Michele Behar Reich is a sought-after educator with a track record of success,” said Shannon Martin Roberts, Executive Director of the Santa Fe Children’s Museum. “Her passionate commitment to improve schools and programs in Pre-K-16 settings at a variety of top notch institutions will undoubtedly aid the Museum in building educational programs for parents and children who visit our Museum. We look forward to Michele’s commencement as we work to continue to reaffirm the museum’s mission and efforts as an educational institution in the Santa Fe community.”
Reich’s career in education began in the late 1970’s as a K-12 teacher in California, where she designed an interdisciplinary curriculum integrating language arts, math, science, and social studies into physical education. After this, Reich transitioned into a collegiate environment becoming a Research Assistant at the Institute of Urban and Minority Education at Teacher’s College, Columbia University, in New York City. Soon thereafter, she became an Instructor and Supervisor in the Preservice Program in Childhood Education, also at Teacher’s College, a position she held for 6 years.
From the early to late 1990s, Reich continued to apply her strong curriculum, instructional, and evaluation skills working as the Director of Education for the National Center for Health Education in New York City, Visiting Assistant Professor of Education at Dartmouth College, and Director of Field Programs in the School of Education at New York University.
More recently, Reich worked as Associate Dean of the School of Education at Adelphi University, before heading west to Portland, Oregon and Santa Fe, to continue providing academic support and consulting for individuals and small groups. In 2013 she was responsible for a pilot program in early childhood science and ESL at Tianjin University Kindergarten in China.
“I am thrilled to be working with The Santa Fe Children’s Museum,” Reich said. “Under Shannon’s direction, the Museum continues to bring new offerings and educational initiatives to the Santa Fe community, all while maintaining its core mission of discovering the joys of learning, play and community. I look forward to bringing my knowledge to the talented education team, and working toward creating community programs that Santa Fe residents, as well as tourists, can engage in and benefit from.”
Reich has an A.B. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, a B.S. in Kinesiology from California State University, Hayward, and an M.L.S. from Queens College in NYC. She also holds an M.A. and Ed.D from the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, Teachers College at Columbia University.
