School of MD Launches to Help Students Succeed on Revised MCAT Exam
Dublin, Ohio (PRWEB) August 06, 2015 -- EduMind, a recognized leader in the field of test preparation and continuing education, has announced the official launch of School of MD, a new division dedicated to preparing students for success on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and other exams in the medical field.
For its official launch, School of MD is presenting a suite of offerings. The All Inclusive Course includes 72 hours of live online instruction, 10+ hours of drill sessions, and access to official AAMC (American Association of Medical Colleges) practice tests. School of MD also offers Core Specific Training focused on the biological, physical, behavioral, and CARS (Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills) components of the MCAT, as well as One on One Tutoring.
The MCAT is a standardized, computer-based, multiple-choice examination designed to assess the knowledge, problem solving skills, and critical thinking abilities of prospective medical students. The MCAT is considered one of the most important factors in determining a student’s success in applying for admission to medical school, with virtually all U.S. medical schools requiring applicants to submit MCAT scores.
For 2015, the MCAT exam has gone through an extensive reworking - the first major changes since the early 1990’s. According to Alekhya Dega, Program Director for School of MD, the overhaul to the MCAT increases the critical need for effective preparation materials and instruction. “The rules of the game have changed,” Dega said. “Success on the MCAT from 2015 and going forward depends on studying a very different and much wider range of subjects than before.”
The “new” MCAT is longer – at over six hours, almost twice as long as the pre-2015 version – and places much greater emphasis on behavioral aspects of patient care such as psychology and sociology. The scoring system for MCAT has also been totally reworked. Whereas in the previous version of the exam, students received a score ranging from 1-15 for each of three sections for a total score from 3 to 45, on the new MCAT each of four sections is now scored from a low of 118 to a high of 132 – equating to a midpoint total score of 500, with 528 as the best possible score.
While demand for preparation resources for the revamped MCAT is high, MCAT prep is only the beginning of the services School of MD plans to offer. “School of MD is launching with MCAT exam prep courses because there is a real need for it now, and it’s a logical place to start, since taking the MCAT is basically a requirement for starting a career in medicine,” said Dega. “But the plan is to eventually offer continuing education classes for doctors, dentists, and optometrists.” Dega also said that School of MD plans to begin offering prep courses for the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam) in the very near future.
