SD Mines Hosts Prospective Students at April 16 Go To Mines Event
RAPID CITY, S.D. (PRWEB) April 01, 2016 -- The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will host Go to Mines on Saturday, April 16, for high school students exploring their college options.
The event hosts high school students of all ages, particularly juniors and seniors, as well as their parents, who get to know the university’s engineering and science curriculum and research projects. They will also have the chance to view residence halls and explore campus. Current Mines students, faculty and staff will be available to provide insider tips about campus life, the application process, scholarships and financial aid.

Through the many labs, research projects and competitive teams, students participate in rich hands-on learning experiences beginning their freshman year. South Dakota Mines is also known for its specialized internship program. The day’s schedule on campus includes:
- Registration: 8:30 a.m. (Surbeck Center)
- Welcome session: 9 a.m. (Surbeck Center Ballroom)
- Information fair: 10 a.m. (King Center, Fraser Gym)
- Department open houses: 11:45 a.m. (various locations on campus)
- Lunch: 12:15-2 p.m.
- Campus and residential hall tours: 12:15-2:30 p.m. (Leaving every 5-10 minutes)
- Second department open house: 1:15 p.m. (various locations on campus)
- Go Women ice cream social: 2:45-4 p.m. (King Center, Hall of Fame room)
Other Mines events scheduled April 16 in downtown Rapid City open to the community and prospective students are:
Extreme CAMPing at Main Street Square, a day of demos, drones, Formula racing, Baja off-roading and more from Mines engineering teams from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
SD Mines vocal groups performing at Main Street Square from 4-5 p.m.
The STEMinist Glow Run, a fundraiser for Girls Inc. cosponsored by the Women in Science & Engineering, Girls Inc., and the Alpha Omega Epsilon sorority. Registration is from 6-7:15 p.m. The race begins at 7:30 p.m. with a dance and awards ceremony to follow.
