Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation Offers New Course for Interdisciplinary School Teams on Mental Health Throughout the School Day
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- The latest presentation in the Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) Foundation’s Signature Lecture Series “Every Moment Counts: OT’s Role in Promoting Mental Health Throughout the School Day” is presented by Susan Bazyk, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, a Professor in the Occupational Therapy Program at Cleveland State University. The webinar is available through the Foundation’s SPD University which offers the latest online courses and lectures developed by the leading authorities on Sensory Processing Disorder with a rich set of e-learning opportunities for professionals and parents.
This informative lecture discusses how small moments can make a big difference in how children feel and function in school. Research confirms that positive interactions and experiences (e.g., enjoying lunch, having fun during recess) help children feel positive and connected to school.
"Every Moment Counts" is a mental health promotion initiative developed by Dr. Bazyk with funding from the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Exceptional Children. This three-year project focuses on building capacity of occupational therapists and interdisciplinary school teams in addressing the mental health needs of all students throughout the day including lunch, recess and extracurricular after-school activities to help all children/youth become mentally healthy in order to succeed in school, at home, and in the community. The goal is to help occupational therapists and interdisciplinary school teams become change leaders. Participants will learn about a multi-tiered, public health approach to mental health and how to implement innovative occupation-based programs emphasizing mental health promotion in children with and without disabilities and mental health challenges.
Members of the SPD Foundation have access to this thought-provoking lecture for free. For non-members, the cost is nominal and CEUs are available for occupational therapists. Parents and teachers alike will also find this presentation valuable and informative.
