Seton Hall Law School Introduces New Degree Program in Compliance
Newark, N.J. (PRWEB) December 17, 2014 -- Seton Hall Law has introduced a Juris Doctor (J.D.) concentration in Compliance to its curriculum.
“Compliance is the fastest-growing area of corporate law and business practice, especially in such highly regulated fields as health and life sciences, financial services and cybersecurity,” said Professor Stephen J. Lubben, who holds the Harvey Washington Wiley Chair in Corporate Governance and Business Ethics. “Increasingly, corporations call on compliance attorneys to develop and implement policies, systems, and processes to ensure the organization adheres to legal rules and industry standards while pursuing its strategic objectives. As new regulations and laws such as the UK Bribery Act 2010 and Dodd-Frank emerge, compliance expertise and skills are in great demand.”
With the addition of this program, Seton Hall Law now offers more compliance-related education and training programs than any other law school in the nation. Additional compliance programs include a Master of Science in Jurisprudence with a concentration in Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Compliance, a variety of online graduate certificates in pharmaceutical and medical device law and the life sciences, and one-week Healthcare Compliance Certification programs conducted several times during the year in locations around the globe including Newark, San Francisco, Paris and Prague.
“Seton Hall Law has been at the forefront of compliance education and training for both attorneys and compliance professionals for over a decade,” said Kathleen M. Boozang, Associate Dean for Strategic Advancement and the founder of the Law School’s Compliance education program. “It was a natural evolution shaped by the industries within our region. New Jersey is home to the world’s largest concentration of pharmaceutical companies, and Seton Hall Law is located within the nucleus of the world’s financial services center. It is a core part of Seton Hall Law’s mission to contribute to the rigor and evolution of the ethics and compliance field.”

The J.D. concentration in Compliance guides law students through an in-depth examination of various aspects of business and corporate law. Required courses inculcate compliance skills in addition to teaching students the core laws that ensure strong corporate governance, ethics and sustainability. In addition, students pursue electives ranging from finance to information privacy and cybersecurity to human resources – areas inextricably linked to compliance in today’s workplace. Generous corporate contributions fund summer fellowships in corporate compliance offices, enabling students to gain hands-on training.
“The J.D. concentration in Compliance is ideal for a student who wants to pursue business law within a company or law firm, or wants to be more involved in the business side of things in a corporate or consulting setting,” explained Professor Timothy P. Glynn, who teaches in the areas of corporate and employment law. “Our J.D. concentration seeks to give students a portfolio of employment options in highly regulated industries.”
