Sigma Alpha Epsilon Partners With The Jed Foundation On Fraternity-Wide Mental Health Awareness Program: Membership of Over 14,000 Collegiate Members to Participate
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- The Jed Foundation, a leading organization working to promote emotional health and prevent suicide among college students, recently partnered with Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE), one of the largest North-American Greek-letter social college fraternities, on an initiative to bring mental-health awareness to its nearly 14,000 collegiate members in nearly 230 chapters.
The partnership, which kicked off nationwide this month, educates students on how to spot warning signs that a friend may be struggling with his emotional health, how to recognize when a problem is serious and how to get help for themselves or a friend in need. Through a training coordinated by The Jed Foundation, SAE members will be empowered to inform thousands of young people across the country about the importance of emotional health.
“The Jed Foundation is pleased to be working with a national fraternity of this caliber to bring more awareness and attention to the emotional issues that can impact today’s college students,” said John MacPhee, Executive Director of The Jed Foundation. “It is our hope that by educating their membership, more students who may be struggling will be identified and offered the support they need.”
The subject of mental health has also taken center-stage at the White House. On June 3, the White House kicked off a National Dialogue on Mental Health. The Jed Foundation was highlighted as an important resource in this area and has committed to continuing the community conversation on mental health through partnerships with young people.
