St. Louis Gymnastics Club Celebrates New Tiger Babies Class
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- While the St. Louis Gymnastics Club had to stop offering gymnastics classes for girls and boys with special needs over nine months ago due to the retirement of the director, they have added the new Tiger Babies class, which is available for special needs and neurotypical children between six and 24 months and their parents.
The 45-minute Tiger Babies classes have been held on Fridays at 9 a.m. since mid-March, but the St. Louis Gymnastics Club is willing to add more timeslots as interest grows. Children will learn safety, gymnastics basics but most of all movement education, with a parent beside them for encouragement and assistance. The activities of gymnastics classes form the base for many of the motions and movements the children in class and exposed to. Children will have the amazing opportunity to sing, dance, swing, roll, climb and jump each class.
“Over the last few months we’ve been able to designate the coaches, space, and availability needed to make Tiger Babies happen, and so far the class has been very popular,” explained Tasha Bowman, owner of the Tumbling Tigers Director at St. Louis Gymnastics Club. Children and their parents will explore various stations during class, including a foam pit, trampolines and areas incorporating movement, music and props.
The Tiger Babies class is designed to stimulate sensory systems, including visual, tactile, auditory, vestibular, and proprioceptive. The activities are beneficial for both parents and children, as they both participate in this experience.
“We have a lot of families coming through our doors, so this class is actually a great chance for parents who already have a child in an older program to introduce their younger children to the sport,” Bowman stated. She went on to add that children who participate in the Tiger Babies class will be better-prepared for gymnastics classes, physical activity and life. Touch and movement are two of the earliest ways that a child begins to know herself and the world around her. A movement education class such as this is designed to guide the movement patters of the child that help strengthen their neurological pathways, which are developing quite rapidly during the infant and toddler stage of life. Movements are designed to develop the child's full potential.
Parents who are unsure of assisting their child need not worry. Coaches will be available during each Tiger Babies class to help guide activities and spot for safety. Children will develop gross and fine motor skills as they develop into young athletes, and parents will be able to encourage their children every step of the way.
