Swiss Post Solutions Study Confirms 72.72% of Employees Ship Personal Packages to Work Straining Business Operations
(PRWEB) December 01, 2016 -- Swiss Post Solutions (SPS), an innovative leader in mailroom outsourcing and digitization solutions, released its second annual study on the impact of personal package shipments to work locations punctuating a trend that is unlikely to abate. With the continued growth and further adoption of online purchasing by consumers, along with home delivered package theft on the rise, it is no surprise that business operations at work locations are being forced to adapt to the changing behaviors of their employees.
The study conducted by SPS finds that nearly three of every four respondents ship personal packages to their workplace, and from those that do so, 29% are shipping items 1-2 times per week. The two primary factors driving this behavior are reducing the risk of theft (60.87%), and convenience (56.52%). Additionally, one-third state that their package requires a signature.
The increase in shipments are having a ripple effect on the office environment as 65.38% of those with mailroom operations oversight agree that year-end inbound volumes are growing. 76.92% attribute this growth to employees sending personal packages in 2016 versus only 53% in 2015. To accommodate the workload, 7% claim they hire additional staff during the holidays while 23% allow for increased overtime.
Surprisingly, only 27.27% of respondents surveyed have a policy in place about personal shipments. “As a leading provider of mailroom outsourcing solutions, SPS has witnessed this trend unfold. This study quantifies what SPS’ operational teams experience,” said Janet Tarzia, VP of Marketing & Communications, SPS North America. “With expertise across many industries in this area, SPS proactively works with clients on developing solutions to mitigate any disruptions and to enable seamless processing.”
