Tap Water vs. Bottled Water – Mystery Solved
Natick, MA (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- Purdex LLC, an independent, drinking water certification and research company that provides information about the quality and safety of drinking water, today announced the release of a free, web-based resource called the Purdex Score. This new tool resolves the debate about the differences between tap water and bottled water. For the first time, consumers can now make a direct comparison between tap water and bottled water options.
“Whether or not you’re interested in the quality of your drinking water, you can’t help but notice all the talk surrounding tap water and bottled water. How many times have you seen a newspaper article extolling the winner of a taste-test contest or a television news story about whether or not there’s a difference between tap water and bottled water?” says Michael Keegan, cofounder. “The Purdex drinking water score was created to finally put an end to subjective opinion and bias where tap and bottled water are concerned.”
The Purdex Score is a proprietary, scientifically derived scoring algorithm, which rates the relative purity of drinking water. “We use millions of actual drinking water sample test results in our scoring algorithm, collected from over 50,000 public water systems throughout the nation,” explains Thomas Keegan, cofounder. “For the first time, more than 249 million consumers can now directly compare the quality of their own tap water with that of bottled water – in effect, answering the question: Which is better, tap water or bottled water?”
Purdex objectively rates drinking water on a scale from 0 - 1000; higher scores relate to better water quality. The Purdex drinking water score algorithm is based on federal health-based water quality standards and has been validated by the Department of Biostatistics at Harvard University's School of Public Health.
The bottled water industry is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which imposes slightly different regulatory requirements than those imposed on public water systems by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This difference can cause confusion for consumers trying to make the best purchase decision. Purdex eliminates this confusion by establishing this new standard allowing consumers a more reliable way for comparing tap and bottled water.
For an actual demonstration, go to the Purdex Score page to obtain the Purdex Score for your community’s tap water. Then compare that score against the list of popular bottled water brands for a direct apples-to-apples comparison. Watch the video.
