TEDxNJIT Event on "Transformations" on April 3rd
Newark, NJ (PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- A TEDxNJIT event will take place again on April 3, 2014 in the Jim Wise Theatre on the New Jersey Institute of Technology campus and also via an accompanying live simulcast broadcast available to viewers worldwide. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, has a theme of “Transformations” and features leaders in fields from sustainable design, to energy, to computing, addressing a range of topics on how ideas can transform individuals, societies, and nations. We will explore examples of small transformations that can expand into large initiatives. We will also look at big transformations that have an impact on individual lives and societies. Several speakers will look at technology transformations in everyday life. The event will bring together faculty and students to share their passion for innovation and new ideas. NJIT’s inaugural TEDx event took place in November of 2011.
“With the success of our previous TEDxNJIT events, we want to focus this event on ideas that will have an impact on our world today and on future societies,” said event co-organizer Judith Sheft, associate vice president for technology development at NJIT. “We have an outstanding array of thinkers and visionaries who will be discussing topics of interest for everyone, especially as we try to individually make the world a better place.”
Speakers include Martina Decker, an assistant professor of architecture at NJIT and expert in sustainable design; Donald H. Sebastian, NJIT’s senior vice president of research and development, who will speak about university transformations; NJIT student Jinisha Patel from the College of Computing Sciences; energy consultant Jigar Shah, author of "Creating Climate Wealth," founder of SunEdison, and first CEO of Carbon War Room; Tim Lefens, founder of Artistic Realization Technologies, whose A.R.T. program empowers severely physically challenged individuals to create art; Joe Solmonese, director and founding partner of Gavin/Solmonese, a corporate consulting firm; and Robert Lucky, former head of research for Telcordia Technologies.
The event in the Jim Wise Theatre on the NJIT campus costs $30 per ticket for the public as well as for NJIT faculty, staff and alumni. Student tickets cost $15. To purchase tickets, register online at http://www.tedxnjit.com/register. One hundred tickets have been made available. Food and drinks will be available and are included in the ticket fee.
TEDxNJIT follows other TEDx university events, such as those at Harvard University and Princeton University earlier this year. TEDxNJIT not only targets the NJIT community, but those at surrounding colleges and universities in Newark including Rutgers University, Essex County College, Berkeley College, and Seton Hall University.

About TEDx, where x = independently organized
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The TED2014 Conference will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast in neighboring Whistler. TEDGlobal 2014 will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; and TEDBooks, short e-books on powerful ideas. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
