The Pub at Ghirardelli Square Renovates, Reopens for Business
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2015 -- Nestled beneath historic Ghirardelli Square, The Pub is reopening its BBQ-meets-California cuisine restaurant with new décor and exciting menu additions.
Replacing the classic Irish pub aesthetic with a brighter rustic industrial feel, interior design was overseen by Oakland based firm SRG Architects and showcases reclaimed wood materials throughout the space including a textured feature wall, a hand painted mural by New Bohemia and a mirrored back bar with integral LED lighting and steel shelving.
San Francisco’s Big Daddy Antiques provided all new seats and tables - including an impressive round communal table made with raw riveted steel and highlighted by a steel and LED chandelier. B&L upgraded The Pub’s booths and banquettes in rustic wood paneling.
Joining menu classics such as Tommy Tots and The Espresso Burger (called out by Zagat’s as one of the 10 Must-Try Coffee Dishes in the US) is the American Cassoulet: a meaty dish of red wine braised white beans, smoked pork, smoked brisket, tomato, fresh herbs topped with crispy chicken confit; Pete’s Pot Roast: consisting of center cut grass fed beef slow braised for five hours with cabernet; The Quinoa and Kale Burger: a veggie lovers delight with oven dried tomatoes, arugula, garlic aioli on a soft egg bun and as a starter course, delicious Teriyaki Glazed Pork Short Ribs.
“The idea behind our renovation is to reintroduce locals to The Pub as their neighborhood “joint” with exciting updates, serving our great food and drinks in an unbeatable location,” said Scott Broccoli, owner of The Pub. “This is the debut of a more grown up establishment, evolving not only on the surface but with our style of service, food and beverage programs.”
Thirsty patrons can find five new cocktails inspired by life by the San Francisco Bay. Fired Up: Jim Beam Fire, apple juice, ango bitters, lemon juice; Orange Pride: Knob Creek Bourbon (a single barrel Broccoli named Brooklyn’s small batch after his daughter), Sweet Vermouth, orange bitters; Day on the Bay: House Made Cucumber Gin, simple syrup, lime juice; Old San Francisco: Old Olverholt Rye Whiskey, ango bitters, simple syrup, garnished with an orange slice and cherries; Golden Gate Stroll: Purity Vodka, rosemary simple syrup, lemon juice.
Broccoli also owns Hayes Valley’s Dobbs Ferry and Aces Bar in Nob Hill. A huge Bruce Springsteen fan, he named one of The Pub’s signature drinks “Incident on Beach Street” from the Springsteen song, “Incident on 57th Street.”

About Ghirardelli Square:
Domingo Ghirardelli purchased the entire city block in 1893 to headquarter the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. The 15-foot-high illuminated Ghirardelli mega-sign was added in 1923. In the early 60s the company was bought by the Golden Macaroni Company which moved the headquarters to San Leandro and put the Square up for sale. In order to prevent the land from becoming apartments, the Roth family bought the Square and converted the historic brick spaces to an integrated retail and restaurant complex in what would be the first successful, major adaptive re-use project in the U.S. It opened in 1964. In 1982, the Square was added to the National Historic Register. For more information visit http://www.ghirardellisq.com/.
