The State of New Mexico Adopts Award-winning K-5 Mathematics Curriculum
St. Charles, MO. and Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) May 24, 2016 -- New Mexico’s students now have access to a proven, award-winning math curriculum that delivers math instruction through a combination of online and printed resources to develop students’ high-order math skills. The New Mexico Public Education Department reviewed and officially adopted ORIGO Education’s math curriculum, Stepping Stones, for grades 3–5. This curriculum is an expansion of their original adoption of Stepping Stones grades K-2 in 2012.
Stepping Stones supports New Mexico’s alignment to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which prioritizes conceptual learning over procedural methods and narrows the scope of content so that students can focus on building solid mathematical foundations. The teaching strategy of this math curriculum stems from research that highlights the importance of mastering the basic facts that form the necessary foundations of calculating with more complex numbers and operations.
In addition, New Mexico’s elementary teachers will have access to ORIGO Gauge, an online student-assessment tool that collects and reports data after their students in grades 3-5 complete each Stepping Stones module. This tool helps teachers identify intervention areas, and was developed specifically to match the style of the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment tests that are used widely in New Mexico Public Schools.
“New Mexico is a state that is making great strides in education,” said James Burnett, president of ORIGO Education. “We’re honored to be a statewide math education resource as New Mexico educators continuously improve education for New Mexican students.
Stepping Stones is successfully used in more than 100 school districts and by more than 450,000 students across the United States. To learn more about Stepping Stones, visit http://www.OrigoEducation.com/SteppingStones.
