Baltimore, Maryland (PRWEB) October 06, 2017 -- Wais, Vogelstein, Forman & Offutt, LLC is pleased to announce the addition of three distinguished Maryland attorneys to its accomplished legal team. Attorneys Jason Penn, who joins the firm as a Partner, Cecilia Lavrin, and Sarah Smith will be working aggressively to build upon the firm’s established record of success in medical malpractice and birth injury cases.
Jason B. Penn joins Wais, Vogelstein, Forman & Offutt, LLC as a Partner, where he focuses on medical malpractice and catastrophic injury litigation. A graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and University of Baltimore School of Law, Mr. Penn began his legal career as a defense attorney for hospitals and health care professionals. This background provides him with invaluable insight into defense strategies used by health care defendants, and has enabled him to secure numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements in cases involving birth injury, cerebral palsy, cancer misdiagnosis, and more. Mr. Penn serves on the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice and the Maryland Association for Justice, and was named Maryland’s Finest Young Professional by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2015.
Cecilia I. Lavrin is a former registered nurse whose work in obstetrical and medical units sparked an interest in legal and ethical issues and a career as a nurse attorney. After earning her law degree, she spent six years defending hospitals, doctors, and other medical professionals against negligence lawsuits, and later served as a Director of Risk Management for a regional medical center. Her unique background in nursing, risk management, and defense allows her to represent medical malpractice and birth injury victims with a rare and comprehensive approach, and facilitates effective review and collaboration of medical records with appropriate experts. Ms. Lavrin is a fervent advocate for her clients who prioritizes close working relationships. Over the past 16 years, she has helped victims and families recover millions of dollars in compensation.
An Associate, Sarah L. Smith also brings a wealth of experience in defense to Wais, Vogelstein, Forman & Offutt, LLC. Prior to joining the law firm, Sarah transitioned from insurance defense to representing individuals and families injured by medical malpractice, lead poisoning, and other preventable accidents. During her years in practice, she has tapped into her understanding of insurance defense strategies to advocate on behalf of the injured and wronged in Maryland State and Federal Courts. In 2018, she was selected to the Maryland Super Lawyers list of Rising Stars, an achievement earned by just 2.5% of practicing attorneys in the state.
With their addition to the firm, Penn, Lavrin, and Smith will be committed to making a difference in the lives of victims and families who have suffered at the hands of negligent health care providers, often in profound and life-altering ways. Their passion for protecting the rights of the injured, leveraging their unique backgrounds, and harnessing the power of the civil justice system make them invaluable assets to the firm’s legal team, and a driving force in its continued fight for justice.
