TiE Silicon Valley Hosts Annual Hacking-for-Good Event
Sunnyvale, Calif. (PRWEB) December 15, 2015 -- TiE Silicon Valley, a nonprofit organization with a commitment to promoting entrepreneurship in the Bay Area and worldwide, invites coders, developers and entrepreneurs to participate in a hacking-for-good global event at its virtual SmartCities Hackathon, which will run January 11-31, 2016. TiE SV endorses events and causes by like-minded, progressive partners in order to showcase how collaboration can promote and facilitate smarter cities and the betterment of communities.
By hosting its annual Hackathon, TiE SV strives to convey the importance of participating in innovative initiatives, in which organizations such as corporations, academic institutions and government organizations are able to team up with the non-profit sector, thus bridging the IoT innovation gap. The Hackathon provides a virtual platform in which coders and developers are able to work together to create solutions for some of the most pressing urbanization challenges. The results may be transformed and utilized in sustainable business models.
“Cities must adopt technologies and smart infrastructures in order to handle the challenges that result from urbanization, such as water management, waste management, energy management, and parking,” said Jay Nath, Chief Innovation Officer of the City of San Francisco. “The City of San Francisco aims to address these challenges and provide key services, which are quicker, cheaper, and more sustainable. Programs such as the TiE SmartCities Initiative and Global Hackathon bring the communities together and provide an opportunity to collaborate and build innovative solutions to address these challenges.”
"The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Illinois) is home to 15 top five ranked engineering degree programs, and our students are well aware of the global challenges their education can prepare them to solve. The Technology Entrepreneur Center (TEC) at Illinois is partnering with TiE Silicon Valley on their SmartCities Hackathon where participants use technology as a means to address the problems of parking, water access management, and waste management facing urbanization today. Our students are excited to participate in this unique virtual hackathon," stated Stephanie Larson, Assistant Director of Student Programs and Marketing at TEC.
Entrepreneurs, coders, and developers from all over the world are encouraged to register for the IoT Hackathon by December 31, 2015. Registration is open to anyone.
