Travelers to Costa Rica Get Authentic Cultural Experience With "Gallina Criolla" Festival
Quepos, Costa Rica (PRWEB) June 17, 2014 -- The 5th Annual Festival of “La Gallina Criolla”, hosted by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute and the Cooperative of Silencio Quepos (Coopesilencio) in the rural town of Silencio, 20 minutes south of Quepos, attracted local residents and tourists seeking to experience authentic Costa Rican traditional rural culture.
Each year, hundreds of free-range chickens and pigs are raised specifically for this festival; thousands of visitors attend, sampling several dishes from different vendors throughout the grounds. Food is not the only attraction, though, as there are activities from morning until night including soccer tournaments, dancing, live music, and games for children.
“One of the most common questions we get asked as concierges is, ‘where can I find some real Costa Rican food?’” says Chris Madrigal, personal concierge at Tulemar Vacation Homes. “You can’t get much more authentic than this! Not only do you find homemade dishes, you’re surrounded by locals playing music, playing soccer, dancing... enjoying their very own traditions. It’s gratifying to be able to share these experiences with our guests who are looking for a less ‘touristy’ experience.”
The “Festival de la Gallina Criolla” ran for three days; each day full of activities, food, live music and dancing, and even aired Costa Rica’s opener against Uruguay in the World Cup on a giant screen Saturday in which Costa Rica stunned Uruguay with a 3-1 comeback win.
