Trinity Oaks Nonprofit Announces Annual Award
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) June 20, 2014 -- Trinity Oaks, a local nonprofit, has announced the Lt. Paul Silber Award to be given out on September 13, 2014, at their annual gala and fundraising event. Trinity Oaks’ mission is to take what we have been given and give back to make a difference in the lives of others through hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. The award is named after Lt. Silber, who is a shining example of a dedicated soldier who has overcome the limitations resulting from combat wounds to have a meaningful, rewarding life after war. Trinity Oaks provides the community with free youth outdoor education programs, all-expense paid veteran “Hero Celebration” events and in 2013 provided over 325,000 meals to those in need. “Trinity Oaks is pleased to announce the creation of this new award,” said Tom Snyder, founder of the organization. “Our hope is to give recognition to Purple Heart veteran’s who continue to serve their community after their return from combat.”
About Lt. Paul Silber
Twenty days after Lt. Silber’s 20th birthday he was critically wounded by a Japanese mortar shell during the battle of Zig Zag Pass in the Philippines during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. After being medically retired from the Army in 1947, he returned to Texas A&M University, received his engineering degree and built a successful engineering practice. Lt. Silber served in the Texas Legislature and on multiple City committees and boards. He consistently practiced soil and wildlife conservation on his land and assisted the National Parks Service representing the landowners in the creation of the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River Agreement. Today, at age 89, he is still actively involved in the life of the central Texas community. His life of service is truly inspirational and the Lt. Paul Silber Award will recognize the example he has set for fellow veterans that life after disabling wounds can be meaningful, productive, and rewarding.
