Unique Summer Camp Shows Teens How to Plug into Life
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) June 08, 2018 -- SuperCamp, a life, leadership and learning skills summer program is showing middle and high school students how to pursue goals and overcome obstacles by connecting with others and focusing less on their digital devices or social media.
The program, now its 37th year, limits campers’ daily smartphone access to 15 minutes for the 6-day and 10-day sessions. Each day is comprised of interactive activities and training that build the students’ communication and listening skills and their ability to take risks, set goals and overcome obstacles. Participants also learn the value of commitment and balancing their digital use with more productive non-digital pursuits.
Annual surveys fielded six months after camp with SuperCamp graduates and their parents support the fact that these students find more success in school and in their personal lives after attending the program. Seventy-three percent of graduates report noticeably better grades, 93 percent indicate they have improved peer relationships and 81 percent feel more confident in their daily lives.
Carlos Moreira, the father of three SuperCamp grads, says, “The experience was well above all expectations. Never have I seen my kids so inspired and well-grounded in such a solid set of fundamentals for life. I am excited by the energy and drive they brought home from SuperCamp.”
SuperCamp co-founder and president, Bobbi DePorter, says that Mr. Moreira’s comments echo that of thousands of parents whose children have attended. “The most common feedback we receive from parents of SuperCamp graduates is that they are more self-motivated with their academics and more confident in their personal lives,” states DePorter. “We feel the theme for this year, Plug into Life, exemplifies what SuperCamp is all about.”
Ms. DePorter added that the majority of this summer’s programs are either full or close to capacity, but parents can contact the SuperCamp office at 800-228-5327 to inquire about remaining availability.
