United Nations Foundation Announces Fifth Annual Global Issues Press Fellowship
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) July 23, 2014 -- The United Nations Foundation today announced that it will host its fifth annual reporting fellowship in New York, to coincide with the UN General Assembly, the 2014 Social Good Summit, and the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit. The fellowship will provide journalists with the latest information on pressing global development issues, giving them unprecedented access to UN experts, country leaders, and NGO representatives.
This 3-day fellowship, from September 20-23, will have a special focus on the post-2015 Development Agenda and climate change. Fellows will have access to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Climate Summit on September 23 and to the 2014 Social Good Summit, during which fellows will have the opportunity to interact with heads of state, business leaders, and celebrities dedicated to development-related causes.
“Enormous progress has been made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals, and the UN continues to work with governments, civil society, and other partners to generate momentum to carry on with a sustainable development agenda,” said Aaron Sherinian, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations at the UN Foundation. “This fellowship offers the unique chance for journalists to gain perspective and hear from experts on key issues shaping the post-2015 Development Agenda, including climate change.”
With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the fellowship is designed to foster participants’ understanding and facilitate reporting of the issues surrounding international development, climate change and global health. Fellows will participate in on- and off-the-record issue briefings, roundtables, and conversations with experts and high-level officials.
This fellowship is intended for reporters who do not have regular access to key UN experts, but are interested in global issues, climate change, international development, and the United Nations. Special consideration will be given to journalists whose portfolios include climate change or foreign affairs.
