United Patients Group Finds Shocking Results For Fibromyalgia Sufferers
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 02, 2014 -- United Patients Group, a reputable online resource for medical cannabis news and information, is pleased to finally bring some good news to the estimated five million Americans struggling with the all-over pain, fatigue, depression, headaches, and sleeplessness caused by fibromyalgia: there is a natural, safe treatment that is far more effective than prescription pills and doesn’t cause the serious side effects associated with these pharmaceuticals.
In a new blog post, United Patients Group explores the findings of a recent survey of over 1,300 fibromyalgia patients that surprised the medical community: of the patients who had tried medical cannabis, 62 percent said it was very effective at treating their symptoms and 33 percent said it helped a little. The three approved prescription drugs that treat this ailment—Cymbalta, Lyrica, and Savella—were nowhere near as effective; a great majority of respondents saw no results at all (60 percent, 61 percent, and 68 percent, respectively).
“This survey shows that medical cannabis is a far better treatment option for people who cope every day with the debilitating symptoms of fibromyalgia,” says John Malanca, founder and owner of United Patients Group. “And not only is it more effective, but it is also much safer to use.”
The post explores some of the side effects caused by Lyrica, which include serious, even life threatening, allergic reactions; suicidal thoughts or actions in about 1 in 500 people; swelling of your hands, legs and feet, which can be serious for people with heart problems; dizziness; blurry vision; weight gain; sleepiness; trouble concentrating; dry mouth; and feeling “high.”
“Of those, the only side effect caused by medical cannabis is the ‘high’ feeling, and strains of cannabis with lower ratios of THC to CBD (a non-psychoactive chemical) have been shown to be very effective at treating pain without affecting cognition,” notes the post.
Malanca points out that only 29 percent of respondents had tried medical cannabis. “Cannabis has been identified as an effective treatment that doesn’t cause major side effects, but most people cannot legally obtain it. This survey is further proof that we need to get full legal access to this medicine for all Americans so the five million Americans who struggle with fibromyalgia day in and day out will finally get some relief—and so the millions of our fellow citizens suffering the many other diseases that cannabis treats can get the medication they need, too.”
