Urban Outfitters Opens New Lifestyle Destination in Herald Square, New York
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) May 20, 2014 -- On June 7, 2014, Urban Outfitters will open its long-awaited lifestyle center in Herald Square, New York. At 57,000 Square feet it stands the largest Urban Outfitters to date. This will be the 13th NYC location for the retailer. “The opportunity of Herald Square presented itself and we were excited to see what we could do with it," says John Hauser, Urban Outfitters Chief Officer of Brand Experience. "Having all of that space really allows us to expand on product concepts such as activewear, music, vintage, beauty, shoes, books and more."
The multi-level shop will feature an expanded beauty department with custom-designed beauty fixtures to house over 45 national and international brands. There will also be a large women’s shoe boutique featuring footwear designs from See by Chloe, Rachel Sees Snails, Rachel Comey and many more. Activewear brand Without Walls will house 3,000 square feet worth of fitness apparel and merchandise, while the vinyl shop continues to grow with 1,200 titles for customers to explore. Pennsylvania-based collectables brand Three Potato Four has curated an exclusive shop that will feature NYC-related souvenirs. There will also be a bookshop and an Urban Renewal Vintage shop that’s dedicated to vintage and remade goods for men and women.
Extending beyond the traditional Urban Outfitters format, the Herald Square location will host several independently owned and operated companies. Los Angeles-based "hair-raisers" Hairroin Salon will occupy a portion of the first floor. The full service salon specializes in everything from cut, color and extensions, and serves men and women of all hair types. “Hairroin Salon and Urban Outfitters have been co-located in Los Angeles for years now with great success, and our new venture in Manhattan really takes things to the next level,” said Janine Jarman, owner of Hairroin Salon. “I think customers will really be attracted to the ‘destination’ feel of the new Herald Square center. Working with Urban Outfitters, we’re able to be part of an exciting new concept in beauty, and I hope we can partner on more salons with them in the future!”
Also hailing from LA is long-time friend of Urban Outfitters, Amoeba Records, who will bring a curated assortment of over 400 vintage vinyl titles that can only be found in Urban Outfitters Herald Square. Since 1990, Amoeba has served as a meeting place for California’s most colorful community of progressive and creative minds and independent music lovers. They now bring a portion of that community spirit to Herald Square.
Eyewear Company Tortoise & Blonde, who opened a shop-in-shop last year in Urban Outfitters’ soho location, will now open in Herald Square. The company will provide customers with the latest fashions in prescription eyewear, including an exclusive sunglass collection with Urban Outfitters slated to launch in June. “We are extremely humbled and appreciative to be able to represent T&B on one of the busiest street corners in the world, especially with a brand like UO who has supported us since the beginning,” says Evan Weisfeld, who founded the company with his father Dr. Steven Weisfeld, a licensed optometrist. “The addition of T&B to the Herald Square roster solidifies T&B’s footprint in NYC, and gives us a launchpad to now grow the brand outside of New York," he adds.
Rounding out the lifestyle concept is Intelligentsia Coffee, who will occupy a 900 square foot space on the ground level of the store and will feature its own entrance. This will be the 2nd NYC location for the Chicago-based company, which found its start in 1995. The Herald Square coffee bar will undoubtedly provide customers with the service Intelligentsia is known for—sourcing, developing, roasting and delivering the best coffee in the world. "We are thrilled to be landing in perhaps one of the most legendary spots on earth,” says Doug Zell, Founder and CEO of Intelligentsia Coffee. “We look forward to delivering intriguing and exemplary coffee and hospitality to all those that pass through Herald Square!"
Urban Outfitters Herald Square officially opens Saturday, June 7, at 10:00am EDT and is located at 1333 Broadway, Herald Square New York. For more information, store renderings and photos, contact Crystal Carroll at ccarroll(at)urbanoutfitters(dot)com.
