Vaughn College Selected as Top Regional College by U.S. News
Flushing, NY (PRWEB) September 13, 2016 -- For the seventh year in a row, Vaughn College has been ranked among the first-tier top regional colleges in the North and moved up in the rankings to nine from 26 last year. In rankings released September 13, U.S. News & World Report again recognized Vaughn in its 2017 survey of the best regional colleges.
"Vaughn's commitment to providing a next generation education is reflected by the rankings,” said President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo. “Our students receive a high-quality, personalized educational experience which is evident in their post-graduation success.”
In this year's survey, Vaughn also appeared on the “Great Schools, Great Prices” category for the first time ranking 10 in the regional North category. There was also significant movement in the “Best Colleges for Veterans” category, moving to fourth from 20 in the same category.
“We are thrilled to move up in the veterans category and to be listed in the Great Schools category,” said President DeVivo. “More than 10 percent of our students come from the military and we work diligently to provide them with the support they need for this step in their lives. The “Great Schools, Great Prices” ranking speaks directly to value—something that students and families are looking for right now in fulfilling the goal of a degree. Coupled with our current career placement rate of 98 percent of students being employed or continuing their education within one year of graduation, students can feel confident about investing in a Vaughn education.”
One of the variables used in the ranking is the predicted versus actual graduation rate. U.S. News calculates a predicted six-year graduation rate for Vaughn students based on economic and academic characteristics at the time of admission, and this year they predicted a rate of 43 percent and what Vaughn achieved was 56 percent.
On this specific metric alone Vaughn far exceeded the predicted rate by 13 points. President DeVivo notes, “This is an indicator that we can be particularly proud of and one that signals the progress Vaughn is making in serving students well both inside and outside the classroom and assisting them in persisting, graduating and moving on to the next successful phase of their lives.”
U.S. News & World Report began its annual rankings of American colleges and universities in 1983. As in years past, it used more than a dozen indicators to score its 2017 choices, including undergraduate academic reputation, faculty resources, student selectivity, graduation rates, freshman retention rates and alumni giving. Rankings were based on a weighted evaluation of all categories.
