Vetted International Establishes Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Referral Handling Procedures
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 23, 2014 -- Vetted International, Ltd, a global service provider that provides medical evacuations in austere environments has established referral handling procedures for its insurance and corporate clients.
“Vetted International is committed to providing our clients with expeditious responses and the highest quality of service in spite of austere and challenging environments,” CEO Brian Sjostedt states. “Our international personnel, as well as our domestic 24/7/365 Operations Team, are prepared to provide immediate assistance to our clients with a due regard to both the risks and precautions required.”
The Ebola virus causes an acute illness which is often fatal if untreated. Ebola spreads through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids.
Persons exposed to EVD should be isolated/quarantined, as people remain infectious as long as their blood and body fluids, including semen and breast milk, contain the virus. Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to 7 weeks after recovery from illness. Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola.
As a means for preventing the spread of EVD, persons who have been exposed to Ebola Virus should not travel by commercial aircraft. There is a risk of developing symptoms in transit and potentially exposing other passengers onboard with the virus. When transporting someone who has been exposed but does not have symptoms, infection control precautions and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are not required.
Vetted International has established protocols for dealing with EVD and has field staff/employees in the regions affected to facilitate treatment or movement of exposed persons. Additionally, we are versed in the process of coordinating repatriation of exposed US Nationals through official channels.
Vetted International recommends employers review their current insurance policy to determine the level of coverage is being offered for communicable diseases. Once determined, discussions about transportation and treatment of individual employees exposed to EVD can occur with the broker and carriers.
