VIF International Education Honors Educators With Awards, Resources
Chapel Hill, N.C. (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- VIF International Education recently announced the winners of the 2014 Global Educator Awards. The winning educators come from five different schools across five North Carolina counties. In addition to being honored as top international educators in the state, all winners will receive travel vouchers and the winning Global Team will receive funds for global education materials for its school. Winners include:
Fabrice Fresse (France) - Hopewell High School, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, N.C.
Viviana López Ruiz (Colombia) - Cooper Elementary School, Johnston County Schools, N.C.
Li Wang (China) - Glenwood Elementary School, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, N.C.
Irene Zamora Soto (Spain) - Shiloh Elementary School, Union County Public Schools, N.C.
Yamil Ardila Hoyos, Mónica González Reyes, Claudia Otálvaro Dicué (Colombia) and Noelia Barquero Varela (Costa Rica) - East Iredell Elementary School, Iredell-Statesville Schools, N.C.
As cultural ambassadors, these educators were selected to receive this honor based on their commitment to teaching global awareness through project-based inquiry (PBI). All award recipients had to create and submit original PBI lesson plans to the VIF learning center to demonstrate how they incorporated global learning into their daily instruction and how they engaged their students and teaching teams. Global Team Award winners also had to demonstrate successful collaboration in lesson planning as well as customize the implementation of their original lessons based on the unique profile of each teaching team member’s individual classroom.
Fabrice Fresse, who also received the Global Educator’s Choice Award for his submitted lesson plan, explained his motivation for creating his winning lesson, “My aim was to have students examine different countries and cultures that share a language so they understand that the world is not accidentally divided into these countries and cultures and that sharing a language also implies sharing a history.”
The winning teachers are just some of the more than 1,300 educators who are involved in VIF’s expanding global education programs - Passport Global Schools, Splash Language Immersion and Cultural Exchange Teachers. In these programs, teachers utilize the Global Gateway system which offers online professional development and curricular resources to bring international education into their classrooms on a daily basis and drive student achievement through global learning.
“These are the teachers parents want their children to have. They are actively empowering their students and fellow teachers to engage the world and weave global perspectives into their lessons,” said David Young, CEO of VIF. “VIF is proud to work with hundreds of global teachers and to see firsthand the impact they have. We are especially pleased to recognize some of the best global teachers in education today.”
Teachers around the world can become members of the VIF learning center for free and learn to effectively integrate global themes into their core instruction by accessing Global Gateway professional development, a robust library of ready-to-use lesson plans and a growing community of nearly 4,000 educators. Through Global Gateway, teachers work to understand and investigate the world, connect with others and make learning global.
