Virginia Candidates Discuss Virginia’s Workforce in Candidate Questionnaire Videos
Richmond,VA (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- The Virginia Prosperity Project (VirginiaP2), a respected source for informing voters in Virginia, released the third in its eight part series of candidate questionnaire videos today. The videos feature Ken Cuccinelli, Terry McAuliffe, Robert Sarvis, E.W. Jackson and Ralph Northam sharing their thoughts on enriching Virginia’s workforce.
VirginiaP2 also held a hangout yesterday with Dr. Bob Holsworth, Wash. Examiner's Steve Contorno and NBC12's Ryan Nobles discussing the issues, candidates and election. The replay can be found at http://www.virginiap2.com/navigating-virginia-in-2013.
Key takeaways from the workforce videos include:
Ken Cuccinelli - "It’s very important in my view to have one person that everyone in Virginia can go to as the hub of workforce development."
Terry McAuliffe - "We need the best teachers. If you take average Virginia pay to average teacher pay, Virginia ranks 50/50 states, we need to change that.”
Robert Sarvis - "We have to have a system that is more focused on what the needs of the future will be.”
Additionally along with the candidate videos VirginaP2 also released the results of its Virginia workforce voter survey at http://www.virginiap2.com/.
“According to a recently released George Mason University study, over the next ten years, Virginia will need 2 million new workers with the required education and skills to meet the workforce needs of Virginia’s businesses (50% to replace retiring workers and 50% new workers). Many of these jobs will require technical skills training or apprenticeships,” said executive director Ryan Dunn.
“We heard from the candidates this week on the initiatives they believe will ensure that the education, skills and training students receive is linked to the workforce needs of the business community,” concluded Dunn.
VirginiaP2’s candidate questionnaire videos focus on eight specific topics ranging from healthcare, workforce, business climate, taxation, and Virginia’s regulatory system. Comparing and contrasting the candidates on the issues that matter most to the public and employers and employees.
The Virginia Prosperity Project (VA P2) is a nonpartisan, issue education and election information clearing house used by thousands of Virginia voters to help them play a more active and informed role in government and the political process.
