Vocations Café is at Everest Academy in Lemont, IL
Lemont, IL (PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- What is your calling? Did you listen for it when you were in 7th or 8th grade? Would it have made difference in your life or in the world if you not only heard it, but embraced and answered it? Students at Everest Academy learn what a vocation is and also learn the different types of vocations God may call us to answer. Everest Academy’s Vocation Café provides a chance for the 7th and 8th grade class to hear from those who have responded to Christ's call and have followed Him specifically in religious or consecrated life.
In a café-style setting with dimmed lights and soft music in the background, the Everest Academy students sipped on hot chocolate and munched on treats, listening with open ears and open hearts to Mr. Michael Metz share how he came to recognize and respond to God’s call in his life. Michael is from Atlanta, GA where he attended Pinecrest Academy, which is a PreK-12 College Preparatory Catholic School and a sister school with Everest Academy in Lemont, IL.
Through his youth Michael developed a deep love for God and his faith. After graduating from Pinecrest Academy, Michael attended Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN where he trained rigorously and became a lieutenant officer in the Army. Michael explained to the students that the thought of priesthood was far from his mind, until one day he stumbled across a Catholic mass. With the sound of gunfire in the background, he entered the tent, and heard the priest speaking about the call to be a military priest. It was then when it all came together for him. Michael knew what God had in store for him, and he responded. Michael entered the seminary the following year and is currently studying at University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, IL. He receives his army training during breaks.
The Vocations Café is an example of how an Everest Academy education readies its students to navigate and handle growing up in today’s secular world. Saira Herboth, Spiritual Formation Director at Everest Academy, explains, “The aim of the café experience is to inspire Everest students through a personal witness, and through that witness, help the students be that much more open to following Christ's own call in their life.” Certainly not a typical topic found at your local coffee house, but certainly a large topic addressed through an Everest education.
