Washington State Moves to Keep Marijuana Away From Children
USA (PRWEB) July 07, 2014 -- The State of Washington is moving to take action to keep marijuana out of the hands of children, according to a DrugFree.org article “Washington Governor Announces Emergency Rules to Keep Marijuana Away From Kids” (6/25).
Just like Colorado before them, Washington will now add strict requirements for packaging and marketing of marijuana edibles. Prohibited images such as cartoons, toys and others that may attract children will no longer be allowed on the packaging. Earlier in May two deaths, which rocked Colorado, were connected with marijuana edibles. Edibles, unlike traditional marijuana use, can be extremely potent in a short amount of time. There have been some bizarre side effects recorded from consumption of edibles, especially in young children.
While stores authorized to sell marijuana to the public in Washington aren’t going to be open until July 8th, Washington is working fast to make sure to prevent any deaths.
Marijuana use is now legal in Washington State, but only for adults ages 21 and up. Bright colorful packaging on edibles, sold throughout the “green belt”, tends to attract young children. The governor Jay Inslee is asking all Washingtonians, especially parents, to keep their edibles out of the hands of kids. Despite its popularity, marijuana can be addictive. If you or someone you care about is struggling with an addiction to marijuana, there is help.
