Whitley County Records First Electronic Deed with Simplifile
WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (PRWEB) August 26, 2013 -- Whitley County, Ind., is now accepting deeds and other land documents submitted electronically through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service provider. With this new option, the county is urging more organizations to take advantage of this expedited recording option to save time and money.
The county has been e-recording a limited number of document types with Simplifile since 2011 but recorded its first electronic deed this year.
“We were first informed that Simplifile could e-record deeds at our annual Indiana Recorders conference in April of 2012,” said Whitley County Recorder April Whetstone. “We chose to offer e-recording in order to save employee time; our recorder’s office and our assessor’s office only employ two full-time employees. This also offers a time-saving option for the customer, so they don’t have to wait in line in our offices.”
With e-recording, customers including title companies, banks, attorneys, and more are able to send documents to the county recorder via the Internet, avoiding the mail or traveling to and from the courthouse to submit documents in person.
“The county offices love that the Simplifile program is a user-friendly, web-based interface; thus, no software needed to be installed on our machines,” Whetstone said. “The support staff has been very responsive and helpful also.”
According to Whetstone, submitters are notified instantly if a document is rejected and the reason why, preventing several days of mailing the document back to them and then having to mail it back in again to the county.
“Our goal is to convince even more lenders and title companies to utilize the multitude of e-recording benefits,” Whetstone said.
With the addition of Whitley County, just over 30 percent of Indiana’s recording jurisdictions have adopted Simplifile’s e-recording service to improve their document workflow and recording processes.
