With Login Growth Exploding, Password Replacement Clef Takes On Online Checkouts
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2013 -- In a post on the company blog today, Clef CEO, Brennen Byrne, announced that the company would be expanding its technology to make checking out online easier. Clef launched their mobile app at the end of June to make logging in easier, and has already expanded to power logins on more than 1000 sites online.
The Clef app lets users identify themselves with their phones, letting them log in without remembering or typing anything. After today, the same app can now be used to check out at participating online stores. Two stores are already using Clef at the time of the announcement, a merchandise store for Clef itself and The Little Green Store, a jewelry and art store focused on sustainability.
“As we were expanding the reach of our login platform, we expected to see the increase in customer satisfaction and reduced fraud, but we were really surprised by how much using Clef affected a site’s retention rate,” said Byrne. “Once we saw that, we knew that we needed to find a way to make this work for e-commerce, and we were getting requests for it before we could even start building it.”
The Clef checkout process will be rolled out to stores through plugins for the popular e-commerce platforms over the next few weeks. Stores can sign up for more information at getclef.com/stores to get notified when it's available for their platform. The first 50 stores that sign up will get access to Clef free for the first 6 months.
“Clef has changed the way we do business online,” said Bonnie Everage, online retail manager at The LIttle Green Store. “Cart abandonment was the hardest problem for us, since so many of our customers weren’t super techy, but now they can swipe their phone like they would swipe their credit card in the store and it just works.”
The initial testing period for The Little Green Store has shown great results, with abandonment decreasing by nearly 10% for first time customers. The technology that has quickly spread across login pages is now earning a place on checkout pages as well.
