Wood-Mizer to Salvage Fallen Trees for Indianapolis School
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) May 23, 2014 -- Wood-Mizer LLC, the world’s leading sawmill manufacturer headquartered in Indianapolis, will saw fallen trees into lumber at the Indianapolis based Paramount School of Excellence (PSOE) for students to use in woodworking projects. With more than 60,000 sawmills in operation throughout 120 countries, Wood-Mizer sawmills enable woodworkers, farmers, and arborists around the world to efficiently turn logs into lumber for hobby or profession.
Located on the eastside of Indianapolis, Paramount School of Excellence educates K-8 students in an innovative environment that instills high expectations for success. PSOE currently serves 501 students of which 92% are below poverty level, 18% receive special education services and 12% are English language learners.
Integral to PSOE’s approach to education is the connection of theory with practical, integrated learning activities. With the help of Wood-Mizer, Paramount students will have the opportunity to see how a sawmill turns logs into lumber from trees that would have otherwise gone to waste. The students will use the lumber for both interior and exterior projects including benches and book shelves. An observation deck will also be built so that students and the surrounding community will be able to observe wildlife and study trees on the school campus.
“Wood-Mizer’s dedication and commitment to our local communities has been the foundation of our company for more than 30 years,” said Wood-Mizer COO Darryl Floyd. “Helping educate these students about the woodworking process is a great opportunity to give back to our local schools and we look forward to lending our support.”
The public is invited to observe Wood-Mizer sawing fallen trees into usable lumber for students on Wednesday, May 28th from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the PSOE campus at 3020 Nowland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. After the lumber is air dried, the students will begin building indoor and outdoor furniture as part of the school’s woodworking curriculum.
