WorldQuant University Introduces Data Science Module to Expand Access
NEW YORK (PRWEB) April 30, 2018 -- WorldQuant University today announced the pilot of the Introduction to Data Science Module, an eight-week long course where students learn how to turn business metrics into valuable insights. With its first cohort underway, the module has seen tremendous interest. Over 600 students applied to join the first cohort, and more than 200 were accepted. The Data Incubator, the leading fellowship program that trains data scientists, built the tuition-free module, ensuring it is designed to equip students with 21st century skills and prepare them for in-demand jobs in data science.
The module is the second program offered by WorldQuant University, which offers an online and tuition-free Master’s in Financial Engineering. The new offering starts with a comprehensive introduction to Python and extends to the growing portfolio of essential data science tools. Most importantly, students learn to turn business metrics into valuable insights in simulated development environments using real business data, which is essential to ensure these skills can be applied in business.
“The feedback loop between employers, educational institutions, and students is insufficient and everyone is feeling the weight of the skills gap,” said WorldQuant University CEO Daphne Kis. “Our Introduction to Data Science Module is a fine example of developing a solution to the skills gap. The module is designed with input from leading employers so students learn the skills that are most in-demand. It is flexible, asynchronous, and allows students to advance their careers without the burden of tuition or travel.”
Through its partnership with The Data Incubator, WorldQuant University is able to deliver the most in-demand, practical training in data science to students across the globe. Students work with Python, pandas, and Jupyter Notebooks in a hands-on, collaborative, online setting, and earn a certificate of completion upon successfully finishing the program.
“Expanding opportunity and access is about creating pathways for students to unlock their full potential,” said WorldQuant University Founder Igor Tulchinsky. “We want to help our students close existing skills gaps, ensuring that opportunity is equally accessible to everyone.”
The Introduction to Data Science Module runs quarterly, with the next cohort starting on July 2, 2018. Interested students can learn more and apply at https://wqu.org/programs/data-science.
